Teen Jewelry Fashion Exposed

Teenagers are a fickle bunch. At that stage of physical and psychological growth, they are constantly experimenting with things to improve their image and their look. Teen jewelry fashion plays a major part in the development of their identity and efforts to either blend in with the crowd or establish their own unique persona. Any parental endorsement of fashion accessories is akin to the kiss of death, and adolescents look to other influences when it comes to teen jewelry fashion.

The celebrities that teenagers see in music videos, television programs or movie screens are largely responsible for dictating trends in teen jewelry fashion. The oversized, ostentatious accoutrements favored by rap musicians have spawned the hip-hop jewelry trend, and teenagers have been patronizing lower-priced but accurate replicas of celebrity bling bling. Instead of the diamonds and other precious gems used in celebrity jewelry, cheaper zirconia and base metals are used for duplicates. Body jewelry (both the pierced and non-pierced types) that is unusually designed and made with inexpensive materials has also seen an increase in teenage patrons.

Beaded jewelry and woven friendship bracelets and rings are some of the other hot trends in teen jewelry fashion. Many teenagers make these dress accessories themselves and give them to friends as gifts. These are personalized with beads that have the letters of the recipient's name on them are incorporated into the woven fibers. Many teenagers also wear certain types of jewelry to identify them as part of a clique or group. These may take the form of uniquely designed pendants, rings or charms that have spiritual or mystical overtones.

Feminine teen jewelry fashion styles are also influenced largely by young celebrities today. Items worn by teen stars, such as Hilary Duff's slave bracelets, are copied by her non-celebrity counterparts. However, whimsical designs are still hugely popular among this set of young consumers. Gold- or silver-plated jewelry and jewelry that has gemstones has not lost its following among teenagers.

Some masculine teen jewelry fashion trends, on the other hand, tend to lean more toward beadwork, silverwork, leatherwork, and unusual stones. Teenage guys seem to think that sporty-looking accessories, such as so-called surfer-dude necklaces and arm bands made from bone, wood, or shell beads on a rubber or leather cord are cool. Stainless steel jewelry is popular with them, too.

Jewelry has been used by all people throughout history as marks of beauty or to denote social status. Adolescents are not immune to these patterns; in fact they are probably even more susceptible to them because of their need to simultaneously conform and stand out. Teenage jewelry fashion is part of their social arsenal and a tool in the development process.

Looking Fab at The Beach!

It's that time of year when we pack up our bags and head to the beach for the day to enjoy those warm sunrays and the refreshing sound of the lapping water.

So what constitutes a good beach wardrobe. Well there are certain essentials that none of us forget. On goes the swimsuit and bathing suit cover, flip flops on our feet. Beach bag has been packed with the essentials ? sunglasses, floppy hat, towel and a good book. Great ? got the basics covered but what about the rest.

So if we are so prepared for a day at the beach, why is it by the time we get home we look pretty worn. Here are some helpful tips to make your day at the beach fun and keep you looking fashion fresh all day and all the way home.

First before you leave home, if you've got long hair pull it into a high pony tail or fun knot. Use some funky hair accessories that will stay in place when you're swimming. Try a fun colored bobble or some firm fastening clips in bright summer colors. If you pull your hair up your neck will stay cool and you'll look fresh all day with your neat hairdo.

Second slather yourself in sunscreen before leaving the house, then toss the sunscreen in your bag so you can reapply after a swim or every few hours. A sunburn is not only unhealthy and painful, it's unattractive, so don't let yourself turn into the lobster of the day. Your sunscreen should be a SPF of 15. It doesn't hurt to use a strong SPF on your face or your entire body if you burn easily.

Your beach bag should be large enough to hold your supplies for the day. Why not get something fun and fashionable to keep you looking fashion fresh. Make sure you've got all the daily essentials in your bag ? sunglasses, sunscreen, a good book, a floppy hat, some lip gloss, and any other makeup touch ups you'll want. If you plan to wear eye makeup make sure it's waterproof. Stay away from heavy foundations. If you must apply something use a bronzer moisturizer. It's also a good idea to bring lip balm with an SPF15 to protect your lips. It never hurts to put some moisturizer in the bag. Include a snack and plenty of fluids. It's important not to get dehydrated.

Okay great we've got the basics covered now what about the wardrobe basics? If you're planning to wear a swimsuit it's usually easiest to put it on at home, that way you're not chasing down change rooms. So great ? first on goes the swimsuit. Now what to wear for a cover? Well you've got plenty of choices. A tank top and shorts, tank and skort, or a nice light cotton dress all work well over top. Choose something that's easy to put on and take off, and choose fabrics that breathe to keep you cool. I also suggest including a long sleeved cotton blouse just incase you start to burn you can protect your shoulders and arms.

If you're planning on heading out later in the day without returning home you might want to toss a pair of jeans or long skirt into your bag. If your outing is going to extend into the evening you'll want to include a sweater for the cooler evening air. If you're worried about your evening wear getting sandy or wet at the beach, then place them in a separate bag and leave them in the trunk of your car. That way you are guaranteed they'll remain fresh.

My favorite beach look is this. And what's perfect is it keeps me looking fashion fresh throughout the day and takes me right into the evening. First I like a swimsuit that's got lots of support and is bright and cheerful. I throw a fitted tank on top and throw on a loose flouncy long skirt. The long skirt serves me through the evening and also works great to cover up if I'm starting to burn. I choose a lightweight material in a darker color with a pattern that accents the colors in my swimsuit. Flip flops are my footwear. Depending on where I'm heading after the beach I choose either a basic pair or one of my funky pair with rhinestones or crystals. Easy to walk in, feet breath, and terrific for an evening out. I keep a fitted light weight sweater in my car, and take a long sleeved cotton blouse down to the beach. I usually choose a long sleeved and long length blouse because it's versatile. I can knot it to create a short blouse, wear it long as a beach cover, and put it on if I start to burn on my upper body. I usually choose white or a soft pastel depending on my other colors. I like white because it's cool to wear and refreshing to look at. Every year I buy a fun new beach tote that's big enough for the beach but not too big as to take it with me for an evening out. I like a fun bag that's full of character.

Since I always feel naked without my jewelry I wear fashion jewelry to the beach. That way should I loose something I won't be out a lot of money and I won't feel so bad. I like to keep the earrings simple and elegant. I may or may not wear a necklace. Often I'll toss a funky wood necklace in the bag to add to the evening outfit. I like to wear a couple of fashion rings just to add the finishing touches. Now if you're fussy about tan lines you'll probably want to forgo the rings. I toss my watch in the bottom of my bag so I can put it on later.

That's it ? simple is the key. Keep your beach wardrobe choices simple but fashionable. Think ahead so you can go from beach to an evening out without hassle. Remember to always make your fashion statement!

Fashion with a Conscience

While wristbands have become a fashionable way to show our geopolitics we often forget that we can make an even bigger impact on poverty and the environment through the clothes we choose. Wearing eco fashion is one way we all can make a real difference. Organic cotton is one of the best examples of how each one of us can influence third world economies by encouraging fairer trade while helping preserve the environment.

A few weeks ago G8 leaders failed to set a date to end their agricultural export subsidies. While Western consumers enjoy low price clothing, they often forget that it hardly reflects the true cost of fashion. Conventional cotton is highly subsidised in countries such as the US and China. According to Oxfam, the US pays three times more in subsidies to its 25,000 cotton farmers than its budget for aid to Africa's 500 million people. These subsidies make it impossible for third world countries to compete on international markets resulting in lower export earnings and even costing some countries more than they receive in debt relief.

Beyond economics, conventional cotton production has also many negative environmental impacts. While it is often described as the "Natural Fibre", cotton requires more pesticides and insecticides than any other crops. According to PAN UK (Pesticide Action Network) cotton accounts for 10% of all pesticides and 22.5% of insecticides applied in agriculture. It takes 1/3 of a pound of pesticides to produce a single tee shirt. The same pesticides and insecticides that are linked to cancer are being sprayed onto field affecting farmers, health as well as the wildlife and the environment.

The "Make Poverty History" campaign has had tremendous success in raising the awareness of many issues facing the developing world. Yet fashion produced in environmentally friendly and under fair-trade conditions still represents only a tiny fraction of the global textile market. However, with exciting new labels and designers, eco-fashion has developed a stylish and contemporary look in keeping with our modern lifestyles.

Just launched this Summer, By Nature (www.bynature.co.uk) offers a great selection of organic cotton clothes with contemporary eco fashion for women, men, children and babies. Products include:

The Perfect Swimsuit For You

Shopping for and buying a swimsuit or bikini can be one of the worst, most depressing experiences for women. Contrary to what fashion magazines would suggest, not all women wear size four clothing and can easily slip into a sexy, thong bikini. Most women, in fact, regardless of the size they wear, feel a little self-conscious about their bodies. These women are hardly excited to begin parading their bodies around in skimpy swimsuits that are unforgiving to even small amounts of fat. For these women, each successive visit to the dressing room in the endless search for the perfect, wonderfully fitted swimsuit, is a further reminder of how far their bodies are from model perfect.

What many of these women do not know, however, is that the perfect swimsuit for them does exist, and it may not even be very difficult to find. There are women who feel wonderfully sexy and attractive in swimsuits. These women understand their bodies and know what styles will complement and flatter those bodies. All women, regardless of size or figure, can be properly flattered and displayed in the right swimsuit. As you enter the summer season, keep these figure guidelines in mind while shopping for the perfect swimsuit for you.

Plus Size: Let us begin this guide to swimsuit shopping with the women who often feel most rejected by swimsuit manufacturers. While all women feel somewhat self-conscious in a skin-baring swimsuit, women who wear plus sizes often feel that they will never find a good swimsuit fit for their unique bodies. However, these women often have the sexiest curves to show off in a swimsuit. In the 1950s, curves were in; in the current era, curves may be making a reentry into the vogue of swimsuit fashion. To accentuate and flatter curves in a plus size body, try pairing a light colored, waist-defining tankini top with more subdued bikini bottoms. Choosing a swimsuit with a high percentage of Lycra or spandex and a high-cut leg will actually shave 10 pounds off of your appearance. To slim and shape the stomach, make sure tankini tops and bottoms meet. This will prevent any unsightly stomach bulges.

Pear Shapes: Women with pear shapes often have an extremely challenging experience when buying a swimsuit. The combination of a relatively small upper body with large hips and thighs can look somewhat unflattering in the wrong swimsuit. Fortunately, plenty of flattering swimsuit options do exist for women with pear shapes. The number one secret to finding a sexy swimsuit for any type of body is to flatter and display appealing characteristics while drawing eyes away from less desirable characteristics. For women with pear shapes, the best swimsuit or bikini entails a flashy top with plenty of eye-grabbing detail combined with more subdued bottoms. Try a one-piece swimsuit or bikini with a halter-top to widen the shoulders. Pair this top with dark, high-spandex bottoms with high- cut legs. High-cut legs tend to slim the hips and thighs.

Short or Long Torso: Women with either short or long torsos often have a difficult time shopping for swimsuits, as well. Torso length is one of the most important factors to consider when finding the right fit in a swimsuit, and swimsuit manufacturers seem to (rather unfortunately) concentrate their efforts largely upon women with "normal" length torsos. To either lengthen or shorten the appearance of the torso in a swimming suit, the key is getting the right cut on the legs. For women with short torsos, try finding a bikini with low-rise bottoms that sit just on the hips. The low-rise bottoms will show as much midsection skin as possible. Legs that are cut too high will shorten the torso even more and give the appearance of stockiness. Conversely, women with long torsos should try a tankini with bottoms that sit a little higher on the hips. The tankini top will break up a long torso while the higher bottoms will lengthen the legs.

Large Busts: Women with large busts often have difficulty finding a swimsuit that offers enough support in the top. It seems that the swimsuits that do offer the appropriate amount of support often look too matronly. Thankfully, most swimsuit manufacturers now offer bra-style support in their swimsuits, an absolute must for minimizing and flattering large breasts. The key to finding an attractive swimsuit for a big bust is to look for a one-piece swimsuit or bikini top with a hidden underwire. An underwire will lift the bust, giving it the support it needs. Also, look for a suit with a straight across cut at the top and wide-set straps. To avoid looking matronly, find a bikini or swimsuit in a pretty, young, pastel color.

Small Busts: For women with small busts, the key to looking attractive in a swimsuit can also be found in bra-style support. Hidden underwires will lift and shape the busts. To add curves to the bust, try a bikini top with triangle-shaped cups or a tie-front. Triangle cups will add shape and curve to small breasts while a tie-front will lift and shape a small bust even more. In general, women with small busts should avoid bandeau-style bikini tops. Bandeau tops tend to minimize and flatten the breasts.

Boy Shapes: If you fear you have no shape to accentuate in a swimsuit at all, you may have a boy shape. To gain more Marilyn Monroe style curviness, try a one-piece swimsuit with a low, plunging neckline. The top of the suit should gather to add shape and curve to the bust and shoulders. To emphasize curves in the hips, try a high-cut leg that sits just above the hipbone. This type of cut will make the legs seem longer and curvier. However, if you would like to embrace your boy shape, try pairing triangle-shaped bikini cups with short boy shorts. Boy shorts are incredibly popular but look attractive on only a small percentage of women; women with boy shapes make up the majority of this small percentage.

While swimsuit shopping may seem too depressing and panic-inducing to even attempt, you should not sacrifice your summer fun for fear of the dreaded experience. Just remember that every woman, regardless of size and shape, has a perfect swimsuit laying in wait for her. All she need do is know where and what to look for.

Freshwater Pearl Necklace Sets Foundation for the Perfect Look

Have you been searching for that certain piece of jewelry for that one special occasion? Or that certain necklace to top off your outfit for a day out? Pearl Jewelry is not only known for its timeless qualities but also for its versatility. Pearl jewelry can be worn with any style and comes in many various colors and sizes. A stunning freshwater pearl necklace can set a great foundation for the elegant look that pearl jewelry can offer.

Freshwater Cultured Pearls come in many colors, which you can even coordinate with your clothing! Traditional colors include whites, yellows, golden, and pinks which have been seen on no less than queens such as Princess Diana, but other colors like various shades of blues, purples, and black pearls can really make a statement as well.

Although most precious metals tarnish with use, a pearl necklace should be worn often, as the absorption of skin oils adds to its luster and life! To clean a freshwater pearl necklace, it only takes warm water and a soft cloth. If you are one of those that adore the gold look, you can try a pearl necklace with gold plated beads separating your pearls for the best of both worlds.

While a necklace alone can not capture the complete essence you are hoping to convey, it can be a powerful focal point that speaks elegance to those around you. I hope you enjoy pearl jewelry as much as we do and encourage you to learn all you can about this natural wonder and shop around.
